What is Grow, and how does the growth list work?
On this page
Grow is the area that answers "What should I do next to get more customers, and what is it worth?". It sits second on the left bar, under Home. It gathers everything UtilitySEO finds that could bring you more visitors into one list, best first, says what each item is worth in clicks and money, and later shows what your finished work earned. It uses no AI uses and no paid data, and it is on every plan.

Your growth list
The list is built from what the rest of the app already finds:
- searches just off the top of Google, or where you rank but few people click (from your Search Console)
- pages that are losing clicks for a reason a refresh can fix
- topics you have no page for (from your topic scans)
- searches your competitors rank for and you do not (the keyword gap and their keywords), and topics they cover that you do not (the content gap)
- internal links worth adding (once you have opened Internal links)
- the most important fixes from your last site scan
The same search found in two places is one item, and it names both places under Found in. Each item says:
- what to do, in one sentence, for example "Rewrite the title and description of /boiler-service so more people click for "boiler service leeds""
- why, in numbers, for example "Shown 2,400 times a month at position 6, but only 1.8% of searchers click"
- what it is worth: extra clicks a month and, once you have answered the two questions, "about £300 to £500 a month"
- how long it takes: under an hour, an afternoon or a new page
- its status: To do, Doing, Done or Ignored
Press the button on an item to start the work: Do it, Write it (opens the Writer with the search filled in), Plan a refresh, Add the link, Fix it or Ask them. Change the status in the box beside it, or press Add to my to-do list: the item becomes Doing, and when you tick the to-do off in Website check, Progress, the item becomes Done.
Filter with the kind buttons (Quick wins, New pages, Refresh, Internal links, Fixes, Links), Effort and Status. The list is rebuilt by itself when it is more than 12 hours old, or straight away with Check for new things. Anything you have started, finished or ignored stays as you left it.
Measured and estimated
Every number is marked:
- Measured: from your own Search Console, the clicks a better position usually earns, minus what you get now.
- Estimated: for a search you do not show up for yet, from how often people search for it, at position 8, where a good new page can usually get to.
- No estimate: fixes, internal links and topics with no search volume. They are still on the list; we just cannot put a number on them.
Measured and estimated figures are never added together.
What is a customer worth to you?
The first time you open Grow, it asks two questions:
- Choose your kind of business. It fills in a starting point (for example a local service: a customer worth £250, 3 in 100 visitors getting in touch).
- Type What is a new customer worth to you? (for a shop, one order).
- Type Out of 100 visitors, how many get in touch or buy? Most small business websites see 1 to 5.
- Check the currency and press Save.
From then on every item and total shows money: visits, times how many of 100 get in touch, times what a customer is worth. It is always a range, wider for estimates than for measured figures. To change your answers, press Change what a customer is worth under the business case, or open the project's settings, Connections, What your work is worth. The questions are never asked during set-up.
Your business case
On the overview, Your business case adds up the top 12 things on your list that have a number: what they could bring in 3, 6 and 12 months, Realistic and Ambitious, in visits and money. Measured and estimated figures are in two separate blocks. How we worked this out lists the sums: realistic assumes a quarter of the worth by 3 months, half by 6 and most of it by 12; ambitious assumes the work is done promptly and goes beyond the target position.
What it earned
Grow, What it earned lists everything you have marked Done (or ticked off in Plan or on your to-do list). For each one: clicks a month from Search Console in the four weeks before it was done, against the weeks since, and the money. The week the work was done is left out, and a result shows from the second full week after. Fixes and links say they cannot be measured in Search Console. The total is on the overview.
Plan, your to-do list and the Writer
They use the same list. Plan shows each search's status on your growth list, and Do it for me leaves out searches you have finished or ignored there. Making a plan marks its searches Doing, and ticking a task marks it Done. The Writer's search suggestions start with the searches on your growth list and leave out finished ones.
Questions people ask
Where did the Growth Engine go?
It retired into Grow on 23 October 2026. Its next actions are your growth list, its Enrichment centre is at the foot of Grow, Pages to refresh, the This month box is at the top of the Grow overview, and the blog prompt generator is replaced by the Writer. Old Growth Engine links open Grow.
Why is my list empty?
Grow builds the list from your Search Console and your site scan. With neither, it says "We need to see your searches or your pages to build your list": connect Search Console or run a scan.
Why is there no money on an item?
Either the two questions are not answered yet, or the item has no estimate (a fix, an internal link, or a competitor topic with no search volume).
Does Grow use AI uses or cost anything?
No. Everything in it is worked out from data the app already holds.
