Do ChatGPT and the other AI assistants name me for my keywords?
On this page
AI answers, Your keywords shows what ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude say about each keyword you track. People now ask an AI assistant instead of typing a search into Google, so for every keyword we write the question a real person would ask an assistant to get the same thing, ask all four, and show whether the answer names you, beside where you rank on Google.
It is on the Entrepreneur plan (your top 50 keywords) and the Enterprise plan (your top 250 keywords). On Minimum the page and the Keywords column show a lock with the plan that has it.
Which keywords are asked
Your tracked keywords with the most searches a month come first, up to your plan's number. To make sure a keyword is always included, press the star beside it. Starred keywords go first, and the rest are filled in by search volume. You can star as many keywords as your plan includes; remove a star to star another. View-only members cannot change the stars.
Each keyword shows the question we asked under it. The question is written once, in your website's language, and kept, so the answers are comparable from one check to the next. For a local search, such as "plumber near me" or a search with a town in it, the question asks about your town (the one the Rank tracker checks, or the one from your business details); for other searches it does not add a place.
What each mark means
There is one mark for each assistant: C for ChatGPT, G for Gemini, P for Perplexity and Cl for Claude.
- Purple: the answer named you.
- Green, with a tick: it named you and pointed to your website (Perplexity lists the pages it read; any assistant can give your address).
- Amber: it did not name you, but named one of your competitors.
- Grey: it did not name you.
- Dashed: that assistant did not answer this time, or the keyword has not been asked yet.
Hover over a mark to see it in words, including your place in the answer ("number 2 in the answer") when the assistant gave a list. Named by says how many of the assistants that answered named you.
Beside them you see your Google position on desktop and whether Google showed an AI Overview for the search (and cited you) at the last rank check. See the Rank tracker.
Read the whole answer
Select a keyword to open the answers. Each assistant's answer has Show full answer, which shows the whole reply with your business and your competitors marked, and the pages it cited. This is the same viewer as on the AI visibility Questions page.
The figures at the top
- Keywords asked: how many of your keywords were asked at the last check, and how many answers came back.
- AI names you: the share of answers that named you, weighted by how often each keyword is searched, so a big keyword counts for more than a small one.
- Your site cited: the share of answers that pointed to your website, weighted the same way.
- Rivals named, not you: keywords where an assistant named a competitor and none named you. These are the ones to work on first.
Use Show to filter to those keywords, to the ones where AI names you or cites your site, your starred keywords, or the tracked keywords that are not included. Sort orders by searches, by how often you are named, by Google position or A to Z.
In the Keywords table
The Keywords page has an AI answers column with the same four marks for every keyword that is asked. A dash means the keyword is not among the ones asked: star it on Your keywords to include it. On a phone, open a keyword to see the marks.
How often it runs
Every two weeks, on the same rhythm as the Rank tracker, on Sunday from 6am your time, and only while somebody on the account has used UtilitySEO in the last 30 days. Opening Your keywords after a quiet spell starts a fresh check, and the page says it is asking the assistants while the answers come in, usually within the hour. There is no button to check again sooner: AI answers change from one asking to the next, and every two weeks is enough to see a real trend.
It does not use your AI uses. Each plan has a monthly allowance for these checks; if a month's allowance is used, the page says so and the keywords not reached keep their answers from the last check.
Questions people ask
Why does an assistant name me for one keyword and not another?
Assistants answer from what they have read about your kind of business. Being named often follows being mentioned on the sites they trust, having pages that answer the question directly, and being easy for them to read. See where AI gets its answers and can AI answers use your site.
How is this different from the AI visibility Questions?
AI visibility asks up to eight buyer questions about your kind of business every week. Your keywords starts from the keywords you already track, one question per keyword, so you can see Google and AI side by side for the searches you care about.
Why does Claude show no answers?
Each assistant is asked only when it is available to us. If one is not answering, its marks are dashed and it is asked again at the next check.
