Can AI answers use my website?
On this page
The Can AI answers use your site? panel tells you, from your latest site scan, whether the crawlers behind ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude answers can reach your site, and whether your pages give them something to quote. It is on the Dashboard tab of Analytics, AI Visibility, works on every paid plan and trial, and uses no AI uses.
What it checks
From your robots.txt (the file that tells crawlers what they may read):

- AI answer crawlers: OAI-SearchBot (ChatGPT search), PerplexityBot and Claude-SearchBot. Blocking these is flagged as serious, because it keeps you out of those answers.
- AI training crawlers: GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended and CCBot. Blocking these is flagged as low, because keeping your content out of model training is a fair choice and does not remove you from AI search.
From your site and its pages:
- llms.txt, a short file some AI tools read to understand a site: missing, served as a web page instead of text, or pointing at nothing.
- Subheadings on longer pages, so an answer has a passage to lift.
- Structured data, the code that tells machines what a page is about, on content pages.
- A date and an author on articles.
- Content AI assistants cannot see: pages whose text only appears after JavaScript runs. Most AI crawlers do not run JavaScript, so they see a page as empty, half empty or stuck on a loading message.
Each finding names the pages it affects and how to fix it. All clear means nothing the scan checks stands in the way.
Keep it up to date
The panel reads your latest site scan, so run a new scan after you make changes: press Run a site scan on the panel, or see run a site scan. The scan checks the pages it can reach, up to your plan's page limit, and lists what it found; it does not judge how well your writing answers a question.
Questions people ask
Should I block GPTBot?
That is your choice. Blocking GPTBot keeps your content out of OpenAI's model training but does not stop ChatGPT search from finding you, which uses OAI-SearchBot. If you want to appear in AI answers, keep the answer crawlers allowed.
Do I need an llms.txt file?
It is optional and low priority. It can help some AI tools understand your site, but letting the answer crawlers in matters far more.
The panel says no site scan yet. What do I do?
Press Run a site scan. The panel fills in when the scan finishes.
If the panel is all clear, will AI answers mention me?
Not necessarily. All clear means nothing technical is in the way. Being named also depends on answering buyer questions on your pages and on other sites mentioning you. See where AI gets its answers.
