What are Web Mentions, and how do I use them?

Web Mentions, a tab on Analytics, AI Visibility, collects places your brand name is mentioned online: Google News, Reddit, YouTube, Hacker News and dev.to. Each mention is marked positive, neutral or negative. Mentions refresh after every weekly AI visibility check, and Refresh fetches the latest now. A mention without a link to you is an easy link to ask for.

#Why mentions matter for AI answers

AI assistants lean on what other sites and communities say about a business. Being talked about on news sites, Reddit and YouTube makes you easier to name. Web Mentions shows where that is already happening, and where people talk about you without linking to you.

#Filter the list

• All, News, Reddit and YouTube show mentions from one place. Hacker News and dev.to appear only when you have mentions there, as most businesses never do.
• Positive, Neutral and Negative filter by tone. The count shows beside each.

Each mention shows its title, where it came from, how long ago, and its tone. Click it to open the original.

#Ask for a link

On a positive or neutral mention, Ask for a link adds a task to your to-do list with the steps: check whether the piece already links to your site, find the author or editor, thank them for the mention and ask in two lines whether they would add a link where your name appears, and give them the exact address so it takes them a minute. It is not offered on negative pieces.

#Refresh

Mentions are fetched again after each weekly check. Refresh searches the web for new mentions now and scores their tone again. Before the first fetch, Fetch Mentions Now starts it. Your brand name must be set in Setup first.

Nothing with your brand name was found in those places yet. Check the brand name in Setup is the name people use.

#Is a negative mention a problem for AI answers?

It can colour how an assistant describes you. Read it, and where it is fair, answer it or fix the cause. One post rarely decides how you are described.

#Does Web Mentions cover every site on the web?
