What is the competitor brief?
On this page
The competitor brief answers one question about your competitors at a time and ends with what to do. Open Track, then Competitor scores, and in Competitor brief press Content gaps, Why they might outrank me or Who AI recommends. It is built from data already in your account, uses no AI uses and is on every paid plan.

What it reads
Your own Search Console searches (the last four weeks), your latest site scan, your competitors' sites and your AI Visibility checks. The line at the bottom says how many competitors and searches it was built from.
Content gaps
Topics your competitors' pages go after that you have no searches for.
- Topics they go after that you have no searches for, with which competitors have a page on each.
- Where you are already ahead: topics where you rank, with your position and clicks.
The What to do list suggests pages to write, for example "Write a page that answers ...: 2 of your competitors have one". Write my version under a topic offers Add to blog plan, Write the post and Add to my to-do list.
It needs their pages read first: press Read their pages in What are they going after? on the same page. See what a competitor's pages are targeting.
Why they might outrank me
Speed, SEO scores and what they changed lately.
- Side by side: performance, SEO score and loading time for you and each competitor.
- What they changed lately: new pages and pages that changed what they target since the last read.
- Where you are already ahead.
Actions might be to speed up your main pages, fix the on-page basics on Site Health, or look at what a competitor added.
Who AI recommends
Which of you the AI assistants we check, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude, name for your buyer questions.
- Named in AI answers: how often each business is named and its share of voice.
- Questions a competitor won and you did not (latest run).
- How far to trust this: how steady the answers are across runs. Fewer than 3 runs is too early to call.
Actions suggest answering those questions on your own site and getting listed on the pages AI answers cite. Write the post answering this under a question starts a post. It needs AI Visibility set up; see what AI visibility is.
Put it on your to-do list
Every action has Add to to-do, with steps already written for it.
Questions people ask
Why does the brief say nothing has been read yet?

Does it cost AI uses?
No. The brief is worked out from your data with no AI. Only Write the post in the buttons under a topic uses AI.
