How do I connect my WordPress website?
On this page
In WordPress, create an application password under Users, then Profile, Application Passwords, named "UtilitySEO". Then in UtilitySEO open Project settings, find WordPress on the Connections tab, press Connect, and enter your site address, your WordPress username and that application password. We check the account can create posts before saying it is connected.

Before you start
- You need a WordPress account on the site with an Editor or Administrator role.
- Application passwords are built into WordPress. They are not your normal login password and you can revoke one at any time.
- Your site must be reachable over https.
Step 1: create an application password in WordPress
- Sign in to your WordPress dashboard.
- Go to Users, then Profile (your own profile).
- Scroll to Application Passwords.
- Type "UtilitySEO" as the name and press the button to add it.
- Copy the password WordPress shows. It looks like four-letter groups, for example
abcd efgh ijkl mnop. WordPress shows it only once.
Step 2: connect it in UtilitySEO
- On the Projects screen, press the cog on the project to open Project settings.
- On the Connections tab, find WordPress and press Connect.
- Fill in: - Site URL: your website's address, for example https://yoursite.co.uk. - WordPress username: the user you created the password for. - Application password: paste it.
- Under Publish posts as, choose Draft (you review it in WordPress before it goes live) or Publish immediately.
- If you are the workspace owner, choose This project only or Every project in the workspace under Use these credentials for.
- Press Connect WordPress.
When it works, WordPress shows Connected, with "Publishing to" your site and whether posts go live or as a draft.
What you can do once connected
- Publish blog posts from the Blog Plan with one press. See publish to your website.
- Apply title and description changes you approve on Opportunities. Titles, excerpts and meta descriptions can be applied automatically. Meta descriptions are checked after writing; if your SEO plugin blocks this, that change fails with copy-paste instructions.
- Unpublish a post (it goes back to a draft) or Remove from CMS (it is deleted from WordPress).

Press Disconnect beside WordPress in Project settings. To be sure, also revoke the application password in WordPress, under Users, Profile.
Is my application password safe with you?
It is encrypted before it is stored and is never shown again, not even to you. See account security.
