How do I connect my Wix website?

Updated 2 min read

On this page

In Wix, create an API key under Account Settings, then API Keys, with the Blog and Manage SEO permissions for your site. Then in UtilitySEO open Project settings, find Wix on the Connections tab, press Connect, and enter your site address, your Site ID and the API key.

Wix in Project settings with Connect
Wix

Step 1: create an API key in Wix

  1. Sign in to Wix and open Account Settings, then API Keys.
  2. Create a new key.
  3. Give it the Blog and Manage SEO permissions, for the site you are connecting.
  4. Copy the key.

Manage SEO is what lets approved title and description changes reach your ordinary pages, not just the blog. Without it, only blog publishing works.

Step 2: find your Site ID

Open your site's dashboard in Wix and look at the address in your browser. It looks like manage.wix.com/dashboard/ followed by a long code, then more. That long code is your Site ID, for example a1b2c3d4-....

Step 3: connect it in UtilitySEO

  1. On the Projects screen, press the cog on the project to open Project settings.
  2. On the Connections tab, find Wix and press Connect.
  3. Fill in: - Your site URL: your website's address. - Site ID: the code from step 2. - API key: paste it.
  4. Under Publish posts as, choose a draft (you review it in Wix first) or Publish immediately.
  5. Press Connect Wix.

What you can do once connected

  • Publish blog posts from the Blog Plan to your Wix blog. See publish to your website.
  • Apply SEO titles and meta descriptions you approve on Opportunities, to your pages and blog posts.

One difference on Wix

Wix's own system cannot turn a published post back into a draft. So on Wix, Remove from CMS moves the post to your Wix trash bin instead. You can restore it from the trash in Wix if you change your mind.

Questions people ask

It says the site refused our login.

The API key was deleted or mistyped, or the Site ID does not match the key's site. Check both and connect again.

Title changes fail but blog posts work. Why?

The key is missing the Manage SEO permission. Create a key with Blog and Manage SEO, then press Disconnect and connect again with the new key.

Can I use my Wix login instead of a key?

No. An API key lets you give UtilitySEO only the permissions it needs, and you can delete it in Wix at any time to cut the connection.
