How do I connect UtilitySEO to Zapier or my own webhook?
On this page
UtilitySEO can tell other tools when something happens in a project, through Zapier or a webhook (an address on your own server). Open Settings, Integrations.
The events
- A scan finished and A scan failed.
- A ranking moved a lot: a tracked search moved 5 or more places, or into or out of the top 10 or top 20, at a rank check.
- A new site links to you and A site stopped linking to you, from the backlink lists we read once a month.
- A competitor changed: new pages, rankings, links or speed, as on Competitors, What changed.
- Your AI visibility changed: the share of AI answers that name you moved by 10 points or more.
- A growth list item was done: something on Grow, Your growth list was marked done.
- Your weekly report is ready: on Mondays, with last week's clicks and impressions.
Events are found every 15 minutes in what UtilitySEO already has, and each is sent once. A new Zap or webhook does not receive a month of old news, only what happens from then on.
Zapier
- In Settings, Integrations, create an API key with Zapier ticked (also tick Scans if a Zap should start scans). Copy the key.
- Press Open UtilitySEO on Zapier on the Zapier card, make a Zap with one of the UtilitySEO triggers or actions, and paste the key when Zapier asks.
- Zapier's test step shows your latest real event of that kind, or an example if there has not been one yet.
UtilitySEO's actions in Zapier are Track a search, Add a competitor and Start a site scan. They keep to your plan's limits, as the app does.
While the Zapier app is being published, the card says Coming soon. Until then you can use a webhook with Zapier's own "Catch Hook" address.
Your own webhook
- On the Webhook card, type your address (it must start with https) and tick the events you want.
- Press Save webhook. A signing secret is shown once: copy it. Every message carries an
X-UtilitySEO-Signatureheader your server can check with it. - Press Send test to send a test message now.
Recent deliveries lists the last 25 messages to your webhook and to Zapier: when, which event, where to and whether it was delivered. A message your server does not accept is tried again after 1, 5 and 30 minutes. If three messages in a row fail every try, the webhook is switched off and the card says so; fix your server and press Save webhook to switch it back on.
Questions people ask
Who can set this up?
The project's owner and people with full access. View-only members see that they cannot.
Does it cost anything?
No. Events come from data UtilitySEO already holds; nothing extra is bought.
