How do I connect Bing Webmaster Tools to see who links to my site?
On this page
Bing keeps its own list of the websites that link to yours, and it is free to see. In Bing Webmaster Tools, open Settings, then API access, and generate a key. Then in UtilitySEO open Track, then Authority, find Links from Bing, paste the key under Bing Webmaster API key and press Connect Bing. Your site must already be verified in Bing Webmaster Tools.
Before you start
- You need a free Bing Webmaster Tools account at https://www.bing.com/webmasters with this website added and verified. If your site is in Google Search Console, Bing lets you import it from there.
- The site in Bing must have the same address as your project. A version with or without www counts as the same.
Step 1: get your Bing API key
- Sign in to Bing Webmaster Tools.
- Open Settings, then API access.
- Generate an API key and copy it.
Step 2: connect it in UtilitySEO
- Open the project, then Track, then Authority.
- Find Links from Bing.
- Paste the key into Bing Webmaster API key.
- Press Connect Bing.
When it works, it says Connected to Bing Webmaster for your site.
What you see
- The total: how many inbound links Bing has recorded, and to how many of your pages, with the date of Bing's figures.
- Who links: the websites linking to you.
- Most linked pages: which of your pages have the most links.
Press Refresh to read the latest from Bing. Bing's list differs from Google's, because each keeps its own index, so treat it as a second view rather than the full picture.
Questions people ask
It says "Bing did not accept that key".
Check you copied the whole key from API access, and that it belongs to the Bing account where this site is verified.
It says Bing has not recorded any links yet.
Bing has no links on record for this site so far. That is common for new or small sites; check again in a few weeks.
Can I connect a different site from my Bing account?
No. We only match the verified Bing site with this project's address, so each project reads its own site.
Is my key safe?
It is stored encrypted, only reads your own sites, and is never shown back. Press Disconnect to remove it, and delete the key in Bing to cut access completely.
Does this connect Bing for indexing too?
No. To tell Bing about new pages straight away, set up instant indexing.
